Northants resign Brooks. Northants Cricket club announce Jack Brooks has signed a new contract that will keep him at the County Ground until the end of the 2011 season. Signed initially from Oxfordshire on a one-year deal, 25-year-old Jack Brooks has consistently taken wickets in 2nd XI cricket this season, and made his first-class debut against Australia back in July, taking two wickets. He recently started two back to back LV County Championship matches.

Jack said, "I'm very happy to have signed a new two year deal here at Northants. Hopefully people will see more of me in the first team over the next couple of seasons. This first season has gone better that I ever expected and I'm looking forward to becoming a reliable member of the first team."

Head coach David Capel said "Jack's emergence this season his been really good for the club. We fancied that he was going to be a good bowler when we saw him last year in the 2nd XI. We haven't been disappointed with what we have seen of him in first class cricket. He had made a start and with an extra two years here, he can continue to develop and become a real force for the team."

Jack has secured another contract with Northants and is currently keeping his skills going and is wintering in Australia, playing for Bentley Cricket Club.

Northants have agreed a one-year deal with 24-year-old seamer Jack Brooks.

Oxfordshire based Brooks has been on trial at both Northants and Surrey during the 2008 season and has been particularly impressive playing for Northamptonshire's 2nd XI, with best figures of 6/90 at the County Ground against Warwickshire's Second XI.

Brooks said: "I am extremely pleased that we have agreed a one year contract. Having played for Oxfordshire in the minor counties, I was hoping to take the next step and move into the professional game, and I am thankful for that opportunity.

"I am now looking forward to working with the coaches in the winter to improve my game with the intention of staking a claim for first team opportunities in 2009"

David Ripley, Academy Director said: "Jack is a player we have kept our eye on over the summer and he has certainly turned our heads.

"He has been plying his trade for Oxford CC in the Home Counties League and been very successful, and together with this has shown he has what it takes to be successful at 2nd XI county level and with his talent, we will look for him to push for a first team place next season."
